Accrual of Points

  1. HHonors points can be earned for hotel stays only at hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio. Participating hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio are subject to change at any time, without notice. Please visitwww.hiltonhhonors.com, call 1-800-HHONORS or call your local Hilton Reservations and Customer Care office for a list of hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio. If a hotel ceases to be a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio, all stays subsequent to such date will not be eligible to earn HHonors points regardless of when the reservation was made.
  2. To earn HHonors points for hotel stays, a Member must be a registered, paying guest at a participating hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio and meet all of the conditions described herein. Members may also earn HHonors points for eligible charges to Hilton HHonors credit cards, a list of such credit cards is available here, subject to terms outlined in their Cardmember Agreement. See the Credit Card Terms and Conditions for additional details. Points may also be earned for other activities as designated by Hilton HHonors Worldwide, L.L.C., from time to time.
  3. A "stay" is defined as the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, whether or not a guest checks out and checks back in again. Specifically excluded from the definition of "stay" are the following types of ineligible stays: wholesale/tour operator packages; contracted crew rates; travel agency discount rates; Team Member Travel rates, Hilton Family Travel Rates; stays secured utilizing Hilton Grand Vacations Club and Hilton Club timeshare programs, Hilton Grand Vacations marketing packages with a sales presentation requirement; complimentary or barter rooms; Reward Stays (as defined herein); NET Group rates; Series Group or IT Group rates; contracted Entertainment or Encore rates; third party websites bookings (irrespective of rate paid); and "opaque" channel bookings where the brand may or may not be known at the time of purchase. HHonors points may not be earned (including as a My Way benefit) for or during ineligible stays, including without limitation, folio charges incurred during ineligible stays. If at least one night of the Member's stay is consumed with the use of HHonors Rewards points, the entire stay is considered a "Reward Stay" and no HHonors points may be earned, except that if Member is using Room Upgrade Rewards, any money spent on the original reservation will earn points and/or miles consistent with these Terms. Participating hotel will determine whether incidental charges incurred during either or those stays are eligible for points, except that Points will not be earned for incidental charges at Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Homewood Suites by Hilton®, and Home2 Suites by Hilton®.
  4. No points, miles, or credit toward tier status will be awarded for "no show" situations when a Member has made a reservation guaranteed with a credit card but then does not check in to the hotel--irrespective of whether or not the Member's credit card is charged for any portion of the reserved stay per the hotel's "no show" policy.
  5. A Member may earn Base Points for up to two rooms per stay, if all eligible charges for both rooms are paid on one folio. Base Points will be earned for all eligible folio charges incurred on both rooms. The term "eligible folio charges" is defined below. Bonus Points issued on Base Points, including tier bonuses (15%, 25% or 50%, depending on Member tier), Bonus Points earned through the HHonors Points and HHonors Points Earnings Style and double or triple Base point promotions, will apply to the total Base point credit earned for both rooms. For any other bonuses, including HHonors Marketing Partner Bonus Points and other promotional bonuses, Bonus Points will be awarded on one room only. For purposes of obtaining tier status, a Member may receive one stay credit on one room only. For purposes of earning miles for stays, miles may only be earned on one room only.
  6. "Double Points" means the Member will receive a bonus equal to the number of Base Points earned during a stay and "Triple Points" means the Member will receive a bonus double the number of Base Points earned during a stay. Bonus Points earned on Base Points do not count toward Elite tier qualification.
  7. Members will earn HHonors Base Points for every eligible U.S. dollar (or other currency equivalent) charged to an individual Member's hotel bill ("eligible folio") for stays at participating hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio.
  8. The term "eligible folio charges" for Hilton®, Conrad® Hotels and Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton™ Embassy Suites®, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hilton Grand Vacations® and Waldorf Astoria* hotels shall mean: room rate, food and beverage, telephone, laundry, pay-per-view movies, entertainment and recreational facilities, and other incidental charges charged to the Member's room during the Member's stay. Dining room or other charges not billed to a Member's room during a stay are not eligible for credit. Such hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio may omit for purposes of point accrual, incidental charges by non-affiliated hotel entities which are not owned and/or operated by the hotel including, but not limited to, food and beverage outlets, gift shop, drugstore, clothes, gallery or specialty stores, recreational or entertainment concessions. The term "eligible folio charges" for Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Home2 Suites by Hilton®, and Homewood Suites by Hilton® hotels mean room rate only. Charges in connection with banquets or other catering functions are not considered "eligible folio charges" for purposes of point accrual, with the exception of points earned from qualifying meetings or events through the Hilton HHonors Event Planner and the Event Bonus Programs. Folio charges incurred during an ineligible stay are not considered "eligible folio charges."
  9. Any applicable federal, state or local taxes, including, without limitation, city occupancy tax, are not considered "eligible folio charges" and will be omitted for purposes of point accrual for hotel stays.
  10. Members may not accrue more than 100,000 Base Points during one stay, regardless of the amount of eligible folio charges, except for Homewood Suites by Hilton, Home2 Suites by Hilton and Qasr Al Sharq (a member of The Waldorf Astoria) hotels for which there is no cap.
  11. Points awarded for stays at hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio outside the U.S. will be based on local currency converted to U.S. dollars. Local currency will be converted into U.S. dollars weekly, using a published rate of exchange in effect at time of conversion. This rate will be determined at Hilton HHonors Worldwide, L.L.C.'s sole discretion, based on standard currency conversion methods but may vary from currency conversion rates used by credit card companies.
  12. A Member whose individual hotel bill is billed directly to a company and the Member is responsible for authorization for settlement at check-out is eligible for HHonors points as described herein. However, group master-billing arrangements where charges for multiple rooms are placed on one hotel bill and billed to a company or common address or settled at check-out by one individual are not eligible for HHonors points. Incidental charges (those charged to a Member's room) paid for directly by the Member at check-out are eligible for point credit. Incidental charges billed to a master bill are not eligible for point credit.
  13. Monthly activity statements are available via email or Members may access account information online.
  14. Members will not earn points or miles for Reward Stays or hotel stays redeemed with a Marketing Partner's discount/free certificate (e.g. frequent flyer award or travel award), unless otherwise stated on the certificate. But if a Member is using Room Upgrade Rewards, any money spent on the original reservation will earn points consistent with these Terms. Members may earn points (not miles) for incidental charges at a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio during a Reward Stay, provided such charges are deemed eligible folio charges at Hilton®, Conrad® Hotels and Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton™, Embassy Suites®, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hilton Grand Vacations®, and the Waldorf Astoria hotels. Members will not earn points for incidental charges during a Reward Stay at a Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Home2 Suites by Hilton® or Homewood Suites by Hilton® hotel. Members will not earn points for incidental charges during hotel stays redeemed with a Marketing Partner's discount/free certificate unless otherwise stated on the certificate. For purposes of counting stays and nights for Elite tier qualification (as explained below), Reward Stays will count towards the number of overall stays and nights.
  15. HHonors points earned by any individual Member may only be transferred in accordance with the Points Transfer and Registry program.
  16. Any points offered in conjunction with specific hotel stays will be considered earned when the stay has been completed, fully paid and added to the Member's account. Points will not be available for redemption before the stay has been completed and paid and the points have been added to the Member's account.
  17. If a Member believes he or she did not receive the correct point credit(s) and/or miles for hotel stays, he or she must submit a written request for such credit(s) to the nearest Hilton Reservations and Customer Care office, together with a legible copy of the Member's hotel folio. Failure to supply the adequate and unaltered documentation may result in denial of such point credit or miles. For the Member's protection, all hotel travel documentation should be retained by the Member until the point credit has appeared on his or her HHonors statement. Requests must be received at Hilton Reservations and Customer Care within six months from the date of activity. For new Members, credit will be accepted for any stay occurring within 30 days prior to enrollment in the Program. Written requests must also include the Member's name; HHonors account number, address and daytime telephone number.

If at least one night of the Member's stay is consumed with the use of points, the entire stay is considered a Reward Stay.
  2. There are four possible types of Reward Stays that Members can redeem, depending on the hotel:

    1. Standard Room Rewards - Members can use HHonors points to book a standard room, as defined by each hotel and subject to availability. View Information on number of points required for Standard Room Rewards.
    2. Points & Money Rewards™ - At participating hotels, Members can use a combination of HHonors points and money to book a standard room, as defined by each hotel and subject to availability. The number of points required to redeem Points & Money Rewards™ varies by hotel, booking date and stay date.
    3. Premium Room Rewards - Members can use HHonors points to book any premium room (any room or suite categorized above standard room designation, as determined by Hilton HHonorsWorldwide L.L.C. and participating hotel) available at booking. The number of points required to redeem Premium Room Rewards varies by room, hotel, booking date, and stay date.
    4. Room Upgrade Rewards - Members can use HHonors points to upgrade a confirmed, existing reservation to any premium room (any room or suite categorized above standard room designation, as determined by Hilton HHonors Worldwide L.L.C. and participating hotel) available. This option is not available for reservations booked via Advance Purchase Rate, reservations that are part of a blocked group of rooms, or reservations that are made with a promotional Free Night Certificate. This option can be used only once per reservation. The number of points required to redeem Room Upgrade Rewards varies by room, hotel, booking date, and stay date. Unlike the other Rewards options, Room Upgrade Rewards can be redeemed at the front-desk of some participating hotels.

View availability of Reward Stays types available for any participating hotel by visiting the website for the hotel, calling 1-800-HHONORS (1-800-446-6677) from the U.S. or Canada, or visiting www.HHonors.com. Members residing outside the U.S. and Canada must call the nearest Hilton Reservations and Customer Care office.

  3. Each participating hotel is subject to one of ten classifications: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Waldorf Astoria, HGV, or All-Inclusive. The number of points required for Reward Stays varies among the participating hotels based upon classification, as well as by room, booking date, and stay date, for some Rewards types. View Information on number of points required forStandard Room Rewards.
  4. Participating hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio and Reward types and classifications may change at any time without notice at Hilton HHonors Worldwide L.L.C.'s sole discretion.

  5. Reward Stays are not subject to blackout dates or capacity controls, except for Points & Money Rewards™, which are subject to both at the participating hotel's and/or Hilton HHonors Worldwide L.L.C.'s discretion. All Rewards depend upon availability and some Reward Stays types may not be available on the date of Member's request.

  6. When redeeming HHonors points for a Reward Stay, Members must either book a Reward Stay online or call 1-800-HHONORS (1-800-446-6677) from the U.S. or Canada for reservations and advise the reservationist at that time that they will be using HHonors points. Members outside the U.S. and Canada must call the nearest Hilton Reservations and Customer Care office. If booking a Reward Stay online, Members will receive a confirmation page with their Hotel Stay Reward reservation and Reward Certificate ID in one online transaction. If booking a Reward Stay reservation via phone, Members should request an HHonors Reward Confirmation in one of the following ways:

    1. Online;
    2. Via e-mail to Hilton Reservations and Customer Care. Please be sure to include HHonors account number, PIN, Reward you are requesting, along with the appropriate Rewards Code;
    3. Via phone or fax; or,
    4. In writing to the nearest Hilton Reservations and Customer Care.
Failure to comply with this procedure may result in cancellation of reservations, denial of accommodations or payment of published retail rate. Accommodations must be reserved prior to Hotel Reward Stay.

  7. All Reward Stay reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card. Some hotels may require a deposit in lieu of a credit card guarantee. Deposits cannot be waived for Reward Stay reservations. No-shows or cancellations of Reward Stay reservations outside of the timeframe set by the hotel's individual cancellation policy will be charged one night's room and tax at the hotel's Best Available Rate for that date. General cancellation policy: cancel 24 hours prior to arrival to avoid cancellation penalties. Additional cancellation policies are established by each individual hotel and may differ from the general cancellation policy; in that case, the hotel's individual cancellation policy applies. At Hilton HHonors Worldwide L.L.C.'s discretion, and without notice, in the event of a no-show or cancellation outside of the timeframe set by the hotel's individual cancellation policy, in lieu of the one night charge stated above, Member instead will forfeit the amount of points equal to one night of the Reward Stay (number of points at Hilton HHonors Worldwide L.L.C.'s discretion), and the remaining portion of the Reward Stay redeemed points will be credited automatically back to Member's account.
  8. A Reward Stay reservation is valid for the room accommodations stated thereon at one room at one hotel for one stay (as that term is defined herein) and as provided on the Reward Stay Certificate or Confirmation. To change the location of a Reward Stay reservation, the Member must first cancel the existing Reward Stay reservation and then book the new Reward Stay reservation at the desired property.
  9. No credit or substitutions will be given for any Reward Certificates that are only partially used.
  10. Promotional Rewards are for Standard Rooms only.
  11. Reward Stays are not commissionable to travel agents.
  12. The number of Reward Stays and the number of nights during a Reward Stay will count towards the number of stays and/or nights required for Elite tier qualification.
  13. Members will not earn points or miles for Reward Stays, except that if Member is using Room Upgrade Rewards, any money spent on the original reservation will earn points and/or miles consistent with these Terms. Members may earn points (not miles) for incidental charges at a hotel within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio during a Reward Stay, provided such charges are deemed eligible folio charges at Hilton, Conrad® Hotels and Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton™, Embassy Suites™, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hilton Grand Vacations®, and the Waldorf Astoria® Hotels & Resorts Hotels. Members will not earn points for incidental charges during a Reward Stay at a Hampton Inn®, Hampton Inn & Suites®, Home2 Suites by Hilton® or Homewood Suites by Hilton® hotel.

The world’s longest flights

The world's longest flights

Published May 19, 2012

| FoxNews.com

Long-haul, non-stop flights have become increasingly popular, particularly among business travelers eager to avoid the extra hassle of the dreaded layover. State of the art airplanes built to fly incredible distances have been introduced by many of the world's largest airlines. Here are the world's five longest flights by distance traveled.

Newark, NJ to Singapore on Singapore Airlines

Flying a staggering 9,535 miles from the American East Coast to the Southeast Asian metropolis, Singapore Airlines flight number SQ 21 holds the record the longest non-stop flight in the world, according to the New Jersey Port Authority. A long-range four-engine Airbus A340-500 carries up to 100 business class passengers across 12 time zones on this lengthy 18-hour flight. On board, travelers can enjoy a self-service snack bar, as well as the extra legroom afforded by a convenient one and two-seat configuration.

Distance: 9,535 miles

Los Angeles, Calif. to Singapore on Singapore Airlines

It seems that, when it comes to long-haul flights, Singapore Airlines holds the monopoly with both the longest by distance and by time. The flight from LAX to Singapore takes upwards of 18-and-a-half hours to complete in one go, despite being roughly 800 miles shorter in distance than the journey from Newark. This is due to the increased wind resistance the LA flight encounters as it traverses the Pacific, while the Newark flight passes more easily over the North Pole.

Distance: 8,770 miles

Sydney, Australia to Dallas, TX on Qantas

Australia's largest airline, Qantas, launched its Sydney to Dallas flight in 2011 to replace its San Francisco route.  The flight takes almost 15 ½ hours to complete as it passes over the vast Pacific Ocean, making it the longest uninterrupted scheduled flight for a Boeing airplane. Qantas has earmarked its longest flight as one of the launch routes for a new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner, due to be introduced in mid-2013.

Distance: 8,578

Johannesburg, South Africa to Atlanta, GA on Delta Airlines

Four pilots and two separate flight crews man the 16-hour flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg in South Africa. Delta Airlines' longest journey transports almost 300 passengers on board a Boeing 777LR across the length and breadth of the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, passengers can ease into the transition with a mix of American and South African menu options.

Distance: 8,439 miles

Dubai to Los Angeles, Calif. on Emirates Airlines

Emirates Airlines flies LA's glitterati to the parched sands and high-rises of Dubai in just over 16 hours. On this lengthy journey, passengers will pass through three continents and over 8,300 miles between the two metropolises. On board are 217 economy passenger seas, as well as a 42-seat business class, as we as luxury suites showcasing Emirates' trademark starlit ceiling that simulates the time of day at the destination to help reduce the impact of jet lag.

Distance: 8,339 miles

American Airlines to overhaul premium seats

American Airlines to overhaul premium seats
May 09, 2012
by CBNews.com

American Airlines said Wednesday that it will overhaul the most expensive seats on its international fleet, and will drop its highest class of service on some planes.

Those front-of-the-plane seats attract the highest-paying passengers. They're also a sought-after upgrade for frequent fliers. Airlines have been focusing their spending on the premium seats as they compete for the passengers who fill them.

American didn't give a specific cost estimate for the overhaul, but said it will spend "several hundred million dollars per year in enhancements to the customer experience." At the same time, it's juggling its bankruptcy reorganization and asking a judge to let it throw out employee contracts so it can replace them with cheaper ones. It's also dealing with US Airways Group Inc.'s efforts to convince creditors to think about letting it merge with American.

Most of the seating changes American announced Wednesday don't begin until 2014.

All of American's planes have at least two cabins &#8212 coach, and a front cabin called first class or business class, depending on the flight. Some of its international flights have a third cabin, called Flagship Suite, on its 777-200s. Some of those were added as recently as 2009, according to American's website.

On Wednesday American said it will return to having two cabins on those planes "to better match capacity and demand." American flew 47 of those aircraft as of the end of last year, out of 617 in its mainline fleet. It said it will install new lie-flat business class seats on those planes. The 777s are its biggest planes, and airlines have traditionally seen international first class as especially important for competing against overseas airlines.

American is getting 10 new 777-300ERs, and those planes will have three cabins. Those are set to begin arriving late this year, continuing through 2013. American is also keeping three cabins on its 767-200s, which it uses between New York's John F. Kennedy Airport and Los Angeles and San Francisco.

American, based in Fort Worth, Texas, also said it will overhaul up to half of its 58 Boeing 767-300ERs. They are mostly used on flights to Europe and South America, as well as some long-range U.S. flights. The overhauled planes will get 28 lie-flat business class seats. The new 777s and refurbished 767s will also have American's new "Main Cabin Extra" coach seats with more legroom. The airline plans to charge extra for those.

The 767-300s that aren't overhauled will be retired over time, American said.

Also, US Airways said on Wednesday that it is wrapping up an upgrade to business-class seats on its 16 Airbus A330s, which it uses for flights to Europe and to Tel Aviv, Israel. US Airways calls that front section of the plane "Envoy." Those seats recline flat and include a power outlet, along with other amenities.

Delta Air Lines officially has abandoned the Atlanta-Shanghai route.

Delta Air Lines officially has abandoned the Atlanta-Shanghai route.

According to a May 3 memo filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Delta returned to DOT the seven U.S.-China frequencies it had been using to serve the route. Those frequencies, according to a DOT spokesman, will be made available "to another carrier that requests them." The carrier launched nonstop service between the two cities in 2008, but suspended it twice, first in light of "the economic slowdown" and then in January 2012 as a result of high fuel prices and "our overall capacity reduction."

Delta wants to retain Tokyo-Guangzhou route rights

By Bill Poling
Delta has advised the Transportation Department that it still isn't ready to operate a Tokyo-Guangzhou connecting leg as part of its U.S.-Asia service, but it wants to hang on to the unused route rights, which were granted in 2010.

The carrier faces a use-it-or-lose-it deadline of June 1 to begin the service, using rights under the U.S.-China agreement to operate seven weekly flights on the route, but it is asking for a one-year postponement.

The deadline has been postponed before, but Delta said there is no harm to the public or other carriers because there is a surplus of U.S.-China flight authority. It said airline rights for 37 weekly flights to China are already going unused.

At the same time, Delta formally returned to the DOT the seven weekly frequencies it had been using for its Atlanta-Shanghai nonstop service, which had been operating off-and-on since 2008.

"Well, Steve, I think there's more than one way of looking at it.

Death by merger: Almost time to say bye-bye to Continental

Death by merger: Almost time to say bye-bye to Continental

September 16, 2011|By Mary Forgione | Los Angeles Times Daily Travel & Deal blogger

How do airlines die? Somewhat slowly but surely, in the case of Continental Airlines.

The October 2010 merger with United Airlines means Continental planes and flight codes are on their way to the aviation graveyard alongside Pan Am, TWA and other big-time carriers. (Nostalgia buffs take heart: the "Pan Am" TV series is set to start 10 p.m. Sept. 25 on ABC.)

United spokesman Rahsaan Johnson explains what happens next.

First planes get rebranded as United (which has been ongoing), then the Federal Aviation Administration issues a "single operating certificate" (which should happen by the end of the year) and finally Continental's reservation website and flight codes will cease to exist (end of the first quarter 2012).

For a bit of time, Johnson notes, passengers will be flying on Continental flights but the planes will say United.

Here are some highlights from the airline's history:

--It was founded in 1934 as Varney Speed Lines.

--Its name was changed to Continental three years later.

--It went all Hollywood and moved its headquarters to Los Angeles in 1963.

--It retained its name through prior mergers with Pioneer and Texas International.

--By 1997, headquarters returned to Houston.

And one other thing: I received notice of a farewell party planned with former and current Continental employees at the Proud Bird restaurant near Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday night.

Organizer Todd Magnus writes in an email: "The operational merger is still going on, but literally, the Continental name is almost gone. ... It's very sad for many of us who have devoted our lives to Continental Airlines."

JetBlue Offers Unlimited Boston, Long Beach Travel Passes

JetBlue Offers Unlimited Boston, Long Beach Travel Passes
July 29, 2011, 11:45 AM  By Jay Boehmer

JetBlue Airways on Thursday began selling three-month, all-you-can-fly passes, with business travelers who use its Boston and Long Beach, Calif., hubs its main target.

The passes, effective for travel from Aug. 22 through Nov. 22, start at $1,299 for unlimited flights to and from Long Beach and nine destinations, none of them east of Chicago, and go up to $1,999 for unlimited travel between Boston and "any JetBlue city," according to the carrier. The passes are available for sale through Aug. 31, or as long as supplies last, said vice president of sales and revenue management Dennis Corrigan.

The offering calls to mind JetBlue's leisure-focused All You Can Jet pass, which in recent years has made a seasonal appearance to capture demand in the post-Labor Day trough. This year, however, All You Can Jet is out, and the so-called BluePass is in.

The difference, Corrigan said, is the new offering's applicability to business traveler behaviors: Flights can be reserved up to 90 minutes before departure, compared with the predecessor program's three-day advance-purchase requirement; there are no change fees or cancellation fees; and the passes have a more forgiving no-show policy, as a user would have to miss two confirmed flights in a seven-day period before incurring a $100 charge.

JetBlue also has elongated the unlimited travel window to three months from last year's one-month All You Can Jet offer. Accordingly, JetBlue has elongated the price: All You Can Jet passes started at $499 in 2010.

Still, there is another key difference: All You Can Jet provided access to JetBlue's full network, while BluePass gives users a access to fewer origins and destinations. Depending on the package, Boston or Long Beach "would be the O or the D" in all travel redeemed by participants, said Corrigan.

JetBlue already has found a corporate client for BluePass in Framingham, Mass.-based TJX Companies, parent of T.J. Maxx and other retailers, Corrigan confirmed.

Still, he anticipates small and midsize organizations, as well as individual business travelers, to comprise the bulk of sales. To that end, the carrier has partnered with New England-based travel management companies Colpitts World Travel and Atlas Travel International. However, bookings must be made online through a dedicated reservations channel. "It's the same booking engine and site that powers CompanyBlue," said Corrigan, referring to JetBlue's corporate booking portal.

Whether BluePass becomes a seasonal mainstay will depend on its success, Corrigan noted.

I asked the ACSI's managing director, David VanAmburg, to share his thoughts on the losers.

"Just about all of the very bottom companies – those scoring below 65 — are airlines and cable companies, which industry-wide are challenged to provide satisfying experiences for a number of reasons," he says. Those reasons include the "high perceived cost coupled with low perceived service reliability," he explained.

How about Pepco, an electric service provider to customers in Washington and Maryland?

"Pepco makes the list this time because of its reliability record over the past year, which was particularly troublesome for the utility," VanAmburg told me. "But it should be noted Pepco's never before been in this territory and was a 70 as recently as a year ago."

Just to put these scores into some perspective, if these companies were students, they'd be getting "Ds" – or failing the class. The companies are under performers in every sense of the word.

But the way, I'm not the first to call these companies America's most hated, and I probably won't be the last.

It is truly remarkable that the airlines can under perform every other industry, including cable TV, wireless, public utilities, and sleazy banks. It takes a lot of work to distinguish yourself as America's most hated industry, but by golly, I think the airlines have done it.

Of course, now that Continental Airlines has merged with United Airlines, there will be one less carrier on this list.

Perhaps another airline will rise – or fall – to the occasion?

Mileage Plus to be the loyalty program for the new United Airlines

Mileage Plus to be the loyalty program for the new United Airlines
Friday, 1 July 2011

United Continental Holdings, Inc. announced that Mileage Plus will be the loyalty program for its wholly owned subsidiaries United Airlines and Continental Airlines beginning in 2012. Moving to a single loyalty program is a significant milestone in the integration of the two airlines and will provide a more consistent travel experience for customers.

United will announce complete details of the Mileage Plus program – including elite levels, qualifications and benefits, lifetime benefits, and other program developments that will take effect in 2012 – in the coming months.

Continental OnePass miles and status safe

Continental's OnePass loyalty program will end on Dec. 31, 2011. United will automatically enroll OnePass members in Mileage Plus and deposit into Mileage Plus award miles equal to their OnePass award miles balance. OnePass members' 2011 OnePass elite qualifying activity will be recognized fully in their 2012 Mileage Plus elite status. Chase OnePass credit cards, including OnePass Plus and Presidential Plus, will continue to earn miles and benefits in the Mileage Plus program.

In the meantime, United and Continental customers who are currently enrolled in both Mileage Plus and OnePass may link their accounts, enabling them to combine their miles and earn awards faster this year.

Launched in 1981, Mileage Plus is the world's most rewarding loyalty program, with a wide array of travel, credit card and retail partners. Mileage Plus members may earn elite travel benefits, including Premier Access airport services, and have access to one of the most extensive merchandise redemption programs in the industry. With the new United's leading global route network, no other airline offers more destinations for award travel.

Mileage Plus received the Frequent Traveler award for best airline elite program in 2011, the second year in a row. In addition, readers of Global Traveler magazine voted Mileage Plus best frequent flyer program in 2010 for the seventh year in a row.

Canadian Official Tries To Block United-Air Canada Venture

By Jerry Limone
June 29, 2011

Canada's competition czar has filed an application with the country's Competition Tribunal to prohibit a joint venture between Air Canada and United Continental Holdings.

Star Alliance partners Air Canada and United already have laid the groundwork for a revenue-sharing joint venture for transborder flights. The airlines have antitrust immunity and were scheduled to launch the joint venture this year.

Melanie Aitken, Canada's commissioner of competition, said the joint venture would enable Air Canada and United to "monopolize 10 important Canada-U.S. routes." She considers the joint venture to effectively be a merger between United Continental and Air Canada.

"If allowed to proceed, consumers will face higher prices and even less choice on key, high-demand air passenger routes," she said.

In addition to challenging the joint venture, Aitken is challenging agreements that allow Air Canada and United to coordinate pricing and scheduling and share revenue.

"Through these existing agreements, the companies currently have the power to charge passengers inflated fares," she said. "Moreover, if these anticompetitive provisions are further implemented, with or without the joint venture, Canadians will pay even more for less choice and higher fares."

In separate statements, Air Canada and United said they "strongly disagree" with Aitken.

"United's transborder cooperation with Air Canada has provided customers traveling between Canada and the U.S. with more and better service," United said.

According to reports, an amendment to Canada's Competition Act allows the country's competition commissioner to argue cases of alleged anticompetitive behavior before the Competition Tribunal, which can force a decision.

NewYorkers united for marriage equality coalition

So cool!
Celebration. Yeah, time to celebrate!

It was really exciting!

27 Dresses。To me, he's soooo sexy and good-looking!

Lady Gaga - Monster

Airlines seek six more months to comply with new DOT rules

Airlines seek six more months to comply with new DOT rules

By Jerry Limone  June 14, 2011
http://www.travelweekly.com/Travel-News/Airline-News/Airlines-seek-six-more-months-to-comply-with-new-DOT-rules/

U.S. airlines have asked the Department of Transportation for an extra six months to prepare for compliance with the DOT's new consumer-protection rules.

Airlines need more time to "overcome substantial technological problems and properly train their employees," according to a document submitted June 7 by the Air Transport Association of America, the Regional Airline Association and the Air Carrier Association of America.

The rules, introduced in April, include a requirement that advertised fares and air-inclusive packages include all taxes and fees, in print and online. The airlines said this requirement will be the most onerous of all.

"We note that the Department has changed its position on full-fare advertising after 25 years of permitting posting of air transportation prices separate from government taxes and fees," the airlines said. "Carriers have relied on this government policy and built their advertising practices around it. Dismantling the current advertising system and reassembling it to meet the new standards will take multiple steps and will be difficult and time-consuming."

The requirement of full-fare advertising is scheduled to take effect Oct. 24, but the carriers said they need 180 more days to accommodate the "thousands of hours" it will take to code and test new solutions, integrate those solutions with IT systems and implement them.

The airlines also want 180 more days to incorporate changes to denied-boarding compensation rules, which are due to take effect Aug. 23.

Among the new requirements is higher compensation for being bumped. If the passenger can be rerouted to arrive within two hours (four hours on international flights), the compensation is 200% of the fare, to a maximum of $650; otherwise the payment is 400% of the fare, to a maximum of $1,350.

"Each covered U.S. and foreign carrier will have to incorporate these changes into its company policies, procedures and training programs, and will require substantial systems changes and programming," the airlines said.

Also, airlines must list specific charges for baggage fees in all e-ticket confirmations by Aug. 23. The airlines said they are in favor of a hyperlink to baggage fee information on their websites, but not actual fee charges for passengers in the confirmation. Since an individualized solution is more of an IT challenge, the airlines are requesting another 180 days to complete the job.

DOT says U.S. airlines collected $5.7 billion in fees last year

DOT says U.S. airlines collected $5.7 billion in fees last year

By Kris Fronzak   June 14, 2011

http://www.travelweekly.com/Travel-News/Airline-News/DOT-says-U-S--airlines-collected-$5-7-billion-in-fees-last-year/

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics, U.S. airlines collected nearly $5.7 billion in fees in 2010.

The number includes baggage fees ($3.4 billion) and reservation change fees ($2.3 billion).

With an estimated $952.3 million over the course of the year, Delta led the way in revenue from baggage fees. American Airlines was second ($580.7 million), US Airways third ($513.6 million), Continental fourth ($341.6 million) and United fifth ($313.2 million).

Delta also was tops in change fees at $698.6 million, followed by American ($471.4. million), United ($321.5 million), US Airways ($253.1 million) and Continental ($237.4 million).

Airline revenue from reservation change fees fell 3% in 2010 compared with the prior year. But revenue from bag fees continued a sharp rise, increasing 24.5% from 2009. Compared with 2008, airline revenue from bag fees nearly tripled in 2010.

According to DOT, bag fees and change fees are the only fees paid by passengers that can be identified separately. All other fees paid by passengers are included in larger categories with other types of revenue.

U.S. Airlines Collected $5.7B In 2010 Bag, Change Fees

JUN 13, 2011

U.S. airlines in 2010 collected roughly $5.7 billion in revenue from baggage and reservation change fees, up from $5.1 billion in 2009

, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The airlines last year received $3.4 billion in baggage fees, compared with $2.7 billion in 2009. From reservation changes, the airlines garnered $2.3 billion in 2010 versus $2.4 billion in 2009. Delta Air Lines in 2010 obtained the most revenue from both baggage and reservation fees, collecting $952 million and $698 million, respectively.

U.S. airlines collect $5.7 billion in fees

Mon, Jun 13 2011

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. airlines collected 10 percent more in fees last year to check bags and change reservations, raising more than $5.7 billion that helped them hold down losses from sharply higher fuel costs.

Delta Air Lines topped both categories, accounting for more than a fifth of the total that was compiled and released by the Transportation Department on Monday.

American Airlines, a unit of AMR Corp, was second overall followed by United Airlines and Continental Airlines, which are now merged. Combined, those two carriers would top Delta in the generation of ancillary revenue.

The overall airline revenue picture for last year was known to investors in January. But carriers do not as a rule break out fees for bags, reservation changes, and other services when reporting quarterly results.

Most big airlines charge up to $25 for the first checked bag and more for a second. The practice began as a revenue bridge when travel fell sharply during the 2008-09 recession and fare increases were hard to pull off.

But ancillary fees, including those to change reservations, have stuck and are now an important part of the revenue stream for airlines wrestling with high fuel costs and trying to keep their recovery aloft.

Additionally, transparency on bag fees and fares is a hot-button issue.

U.S. airlines want the government to push back deadlines requiring easily accessible bag fee and fare information as well as a mandate to boost compensation for passengers involuntarily bumped off flights.

Those summer and fall deadlines were included in a rule finalized in April and driven by consumer and political frustration with airline service, including flight delays and complaints about the true cost of travel.

Trade groups for major, low-cost and regional carriers last week asked the Transportation Department to delay compliance until as late as next spring in certain cases so airlines can train employees and update information technology systems.
